Board of Directors

As a non-profit school, the Meeting House Board of Directors is the governing body responsible for organizational policy-making and oversight. In accordance with the Bylaws of Meeting House Nursery School, board members hold a two-year term with five positions voted for each year by the Annual Membership Meeting in May.

Who We Are
The MHNS Board of Directors is made up of parent and community volunteers who care about our school. The Board also includes one voting staff representative, our Executive Director (non-voting), and our administrative coordinator. Together, we work to support a strong, healthy school community.

Serving on the board can be a meaningful way to connect with other families and gain a deeper appreciation for all of the thoughtful work and dedication that goes into running MHNS every day. No previous board experience is required—just a willingness to contribute your time and care for our community. Having parents that are willing to be on the board is vital to maintaining a strong organization.  Please consider filling out an interest form online before April 30th to best help with planning for having a full board for the following school year.

What We Do
The Board meets once a month during the school year (currently the third Wednesday from 5:00–6:30 PM), with additional meetings as needed.

Our role is to help guide and support the school by:

  • Setting and reviewing school policies and the annual budget/financial health of the school

  • Supporting clear communication between families, staff, and the Board

  • Maintaining and participating in Board committees

  • Hiring and supporting the Executive Director, who manages the day-to-day operations of MHNS

  • Conducting the Executive Director’s annual review and ensuring the school is running smoothly

  • Volunteering our time and working together to support the success of the school

Board Terms & Participation
Board members serve two-year terms. Each year, five positions are filled through a vote at the Annual Membership Meeting in May. The executive officers of the Board are: Chairperson, Vice Chair, Officer at Large and Treasurer. The Executive Director is a nonvoting member of the Board. 

Board meetings are open to interested parents and meeting minutes and agenda are posted on the “Board News” bulletin board in the hallway leading out to the treehouse playground and online. Please notify the Board Chair or Executive Director at least two weeks prior to the meeting if you’d like to add an item to the agenda.
